Don’t let the name fool you this protein shake is healthy and it does taste like a snickerdoodle! It really is possible!
For the past week and a half I have been with my family in Texas. The plan was to have the grandparents babysit and I would get so much work done! Not so. My dad is recently retired too so I really thought this was going to be a relaxing trip. We’ve walked almost every morning, we’ve tried new recipes, we’ve gone out to eat…and it’s all catching up to me. No sleep, fast food, and very little water (I miss my Colorado tap water).
My mom and I went to a class provided by her chiropractor last week about smoothies and how to build the best smoothies. Now I am passing along the information to you!
Healthy Snickerdoodle Protein Shake
So here’s what I learned about protein smoothies, or any smoothies really. They aren’t always healthy. Smoothies at a certain donut shop actually have more sugar then the donuts! Yes, they are from fruit but it’s still not good. The goal I now have is to make my smoothies with less than 5 grams of sugar. Which means I have absolutely no fruit in my smoothies.
When adding protein powder to smoothies be sure they are not high in sugar. Double check the ingredients for those sneaky sugars. If you have to google the words then you probably need a new protein powder. And if there’s a sweetener listed in the ingredients it is not included in the sugar count, and it’s probably worse than sugar anyway. I am still exploring which brand is my favorite.
Don’t use fruit juice (again with all the sugar) or milk (still more sugar). Instead use almond milk, coconut milk, or cashew milk.
Ok so here is my favorite protein smoothie yet! I am doing some experimenting and will add more recipes soon!
- 1 cup almond milk
- 1 Tbsp almond butter
- 1 serving vanilla protein powder
- 2 cups spinach
- ¼ avocado
- ¼ tsp cinnamon
- Ice as desired
- Put all ingredients in blender and blend until smooth.
You really won’t miss the fruit I promise! Plus I am here to tell you I normally have to gag down spinach smoothies but I can’t even taste it in this recipe! My avocados have been small so I sometimes put in a half of avocado.
