I can’t believe I need to start getting our family Halloween costumes ready! I love dressing my family up with a theme. One year we were planes… from the movie Planes. We’ve been in Colorado now for four years and I am still not used to the fact that kids need to wear winter coats over their costumes. Growing up in Texas, a milkshake for Halloween, didn’t seem too crazy. Since it typically snows on Halloween in Colorado I guess you can call me crazy. This Green Gunk Milkshake Recipe was so fun to make…even the kids had a little fun!
I’m going to take a quick moment to show you a little behind the scenes. If you follow me on Instagram you might have seen this already. On the day I set out to purchase ingredients, create, and photograph this post I probably could have ended up locking myself in the bathroom with the container of ice cream and calling it a day.
I mean really, my kids were asleep when I got to the store. But did I take that as a sign to wait until later? Oh no! I woke them up and strutted my stuff all over WalMart. Thank you very much. Check out was a joke (not their fault, all mine) and I didn’t get the main ingredient for the milkshake recipe(their fault for not having green cherries out – Hobby Lobby has Christmas out for heavens sake bring out the green cherries).
Oh well, I just decided to go with it and let you know in the post that green cherries really would make this milkshake more fun! But you know what would really make this milkshake more fun? Try taking some pictures while your one year old scoots into the shot, knocking over green milkshake, and then smearing it all over his clothes and the floor.
Welp, there goes my photo backdrop.
Don’t get me wrong. Being a blogger really is fun. I love it. I love the people I get to meet and the things I get to create. I just want to make sure you know my life isn’t perfectly photographed bliss. Just putting that out there for the universe.
So I just made another milkshake recipe and gave the first one to my helper (big brother). This time I photographed on a table rather than the floor.
Green Gunk Milkshake Recipe
Here is what you will need.
- 1 cup vanilla ice cream
- 1/2 package pistachio instant pudding mix
- 2 Tbsp chopped coconut
- 1/2 tsp imitation cherry flavor (or pick up some green cherries for extra “gunk”)
- 1/2 – 1 cup milk (depending on how thick you like your milkshakes
- Cool Whip, caramel, and sprinkles for topping
Combine everything in a blender and pulse. I didn’t use the milkshake setting on my blender because I wanted the chunks from the coconut and pistachios (and green cherries if you’re lucky).
My 3 year old kept smacking his lips and saying “mmm more mommy!” which made the rest of the day not so bad. Good things these kids are so dang cute!
