Graveyard Bean Bag Toss

Today you get to learn a little more about me. Did you know that I love Halloween? And it’s not just about the candy. Maybe it’s the dressing up or maybe it’s seeing everyone get creative with their costumes. What ever it is did you also know that I have never ever been trick or treating? Never!

Growing up our parents took us to the church parking lot to go “Trunk or Treating.” My parents knew the other parents handing out candy, and it was safe because we were in a parking lot instead of walking down streets. One year the youth put on a haunted house and most of the time there’s a little carnival for smaller children.

So now you know I have never knocked on a door and said trick or treat. Can you believe it? I love teasing my mom about how this ruined my childhood but obviously it didn’t really since I still love Halloween. Now I take my kids Trunk or Treating and always volunteer to help with the carnivals. But I will let Brodie knock on a couple of real doors this year.  You know grandparents and great grandparents, aunts and uncles, maybe even a few neighbors!

Now on to the Graveyard Bean Bag Toss: Trunk or Treat Car Costume.  I used 3 black foam boards, 1 silver Sharpie, and some scissors.

graveyard collageFirst I googled funny tombstones to get an idea of shape and funny names. I freehanded the shapes with scissors. I kept them pretty basic since it was a lot harder to cut them than I thought it would be!

I used silver sharpie because I want it to reflect any light we will have that night. I freehanded the writing too but you could easily print off your own names and use a closed Sharpie to trace the name onto the board.  It will make an indent in the board and then you can use the Sharpie to fill in.

I really wanted to get some fill dirt (you can find this free on Craigslist often) and I might still but for the sake of this post I used brown paper that is typically used for covering windows when painting. It’s thing and on a roll in the paint section at Home Depot. I just crumpled it up and added our treat prize bowls. You can also add a black bird from the dollar store or spider webs! I will cut out the holes of course, I just wanted you to be able to see where the hole would be.

Along with my Graveyard Bean Bag Toss: Trunk or Treat Car Costume, I’m sharing 88+ more really awesome handmade costume ideas from talented bloggers everywhere!
